Hello!
We need some rain for the grass to turn green again..
And so Sam doesn’t feel as if he is mowing dirt, as his legs seem to show us after his last mowing of the lawn!
IT'S ABOUT ME, MY BOYS AND A LITTLE CRAFTING THROWN INTO THE MIX!
We need some rain for the grass to turn green again..
And so Sam doesn’t feel as if he is mowing dirt, as his legs seem to show us after his last mowing of the lawn!
Jack has had a successful track season this year. It has been so fun to watch him. Last weekend, at the district meet, his 4×100 team scored the gold! So what do you do when your mom wants to take a picture of you with your medal…
So, Jack!
In a couple of weeks, we will head to Minneapolis for his 4×100 team to participate in the regional meet!
(Just hope the weather is a bit cooler!)
Headed to my local bookstore and saw this sign!
After I left, I no longer felt covfefe! Thank you to my bookstore!
Sam got some new “slides” (AKA flip flops.)
I knew he had big feet, I just didn’t realize how much bigger his feet were than mine! And, boy do I need a pedicure!
Those are some mighty big shoes to fill!
The boys have one week of summer tucked under their belt. They are adjusting to sleeping in (Jack) staying up later (both) and free days (all of us!)
Forgot to share pictures of first day of school to last day of school! The picture on the left is the first day of ninth grade and the right is the last day of school!
I didn’t think Sam would grow that much this year, but he grew over a brick! WOW!! He is now almost 6’3″ tall.
And this guy!! OH MY! He, too, has almost frown a brick! But, he is looking more like a little man. *sniff* He is now done with elementary and off to middle school next year.
These two…
Now we are off to enjoy more summer!!
I just finished the book Beartown by Fredrik Backman and it is now one of my top 5 favorite books.
Review: People say Beartown is finished. A tiny community nestled deep in the forest, it is slowly losing ground, but down by the lake stands an old ice rink, built generations ago by the working men who founded this town. And in that ice rink is the reason people in Beartown believe tomorrow will be better than today. Their junior ice hockey team is about to compete in the national semi-finals, and they actually have a shot at winning. All the hopes and dreams of this place now rest on the shoulders of a handful of teenage boys.
Being responsible for the hopes of an entire town is a heavy burden, and the semi-final match is the catalyst for a violent act that will leave a young girl traumatized and a town in turmoil. Accusations are made and, like ripples on a pond, they travel through all of Beartown, leaving no resident unaffected.
Beartown explores the hopes that bring a small community together, the secrets that tear it apart, and the courage it takes for an individual to go against the grain. In this story of a small forest town, Fredrik Backman has found the entire world.
The books starts a little slow, which is needed to introduce and to get to know the characters. Stay with it. The development of the characters is fabulous, the way the books goes back and forth between characters and their feelings is done in a manner that I have never read before.
The book is not a feel good book, it is dark. I got angry at the characters, then I understood them, I teared up and cheered for certain characters. It really is a story about people and how they deal with a situation that they know is wrong, but try to make it right or okay in their mind…
Last weekend, Sam headed to Chicago with a friend to enjoy the weekend attending Chicago Cubs games!
My only concern, “Sam. Did you put on your sunscreen and reapply?”
(If this picture is turned, you are viewing my blog on an i-device. If you view on the computer, the picture will be correct. Why? I have no idea.)
Jack has been busy with track season and this year has been successful for him. We have really enjoyed watching him!
He runs the 100, 200 and the 4×100.
This weekend he got first in his 100 m heat and placed fourth overall!
He also ran a personal best!! Yay!!
He also placed fifth in the 200! This is the first time he has placed in the 200…he was super excited!
He runs the second leg of the 4×100. At this time, their 4×100 is undefeated. Very exciting for the boys.
Here’s to Jack, his teammates and a month more of running..in this sweltering heat!
Most people struggle with rabbits eating their flowers. I struggle with deer and they are, unfortunately, winning.
I have a hastas that line the North side of our house. They are HUGE this year!
And then you see this…chopped down like celery.
No picture, but the deer went on to eat another one, another one and now they are all stalks.
Let’s head up to my flower bed. The deer will sit in it and break down the flowers along with other flowers as they walk through the garden.
And why not enjoy a treat of Flox while laying among the flowers!
What is so frustrating, is that there is a woods full of yummy treats for deer…10 feet away!
I have a wonderful plant, but have no idea what it is!
In the morning, when I go out to water, it looks dead.
All closed up and brown.
In the afternoon, I look out and the flowers are all open and bright!
The flower actually feels fake, papery and straw like instead of a soft flower.
Any ideas on what it may be?
After a little research, I found that it is called a Strawflower. A fun flower that closes at night and then opens when the sunlight warms it! It’s a fun flower and a garden tough guy!
