What I have Been Reading…

Hello!

Have you heard of this book?

Oh my word!! Everyone is reading it and sharing how this really hoped them out! Even my mother has followed some of the advice in this best selling book and had some success.

Well, I came across this quote and it summed up MY success I have had with the suggestions the author made about touching everything you own and deciding if it gives you joy or not…

It’s a start…right?

Drinks…

Welcome Back!

Do you buy a specific souvenir when you go to visit a place or when you are on vacation? We do. We buy Koozies! You are always able to find one, whether you are on vacation or at a concert…it’s an excellent little souvenir.

The other day we found the perfect little Koozie for Jason and could not pass up purchasing this fancy little number! It’s a family favorite.

Then the other day, Jack was working hard on a project. When he was done, he had made his own Koozie out of duck tape! Perfect for little beverages!

I must share our drink buddies that we have been using at the pool. These little guys have been a great conversation piece and you know exactly which guy, I mean drink, is yours!

Check out Chad in the background. Looks like he couldn’t handle his drink! Poor Chad.

Jack’s Track Season

Welcome Back!

One thing that I am very excited for with this web-site is the ability to share videos with you! Lucky viewers!!

Jack had a great track season and we really enjoyed watching him run, race and jump this year! Jack ran for Turbo Track Club and for this club, Jack ran with 11-12 year olds because that is how old he will be at the end of 2016. So at the time of the races, he was 10 years old running against 12 year olds in some races. It was definitely a learning year and some races he did super well where others were a bit more challenging!

Here is a video of one of Jack’s 100 m races. He is in the orange jersey on the far left. You can hear people cheering for him, “Go Jackson!” Love at the end when his coach yells “Come on buddy push” and then “Catch him..that a boy!”  That makes Jack smile, because he did catch the boy!

This next video is of Jack’s 4×100 team. Jack is the third leg getting the hand off from the tall boy. You will notice that Jack didn’t take off and the kid ran up on Jack…simple mistake and another running lesson!

Jack did go to the USATF meet and ran the finals in the 100 and 200. He placed 6th in the 100 and 7th in the 200. There were two false starts in the 200, so when the gun went off for the third time, Jack actually started and slowed down anticipating another false start. Another running lesson! Jason and I looked at each other and said, “Oops. Never talked about those did we!”

Jack  was pretty upset with his 6th and 7th place finishes, but we reminded him that of all the runners his age, he placed 6th out of 34 kids and 7th out of 24 kiddos! He also showed up and ran against those kids and was successful no matter his place. It was an excellent reminder to us that it isn’t all about winning, but doing and finishing what you set out to accomplish and Jack did just that. After that realization, Jack did wear his 6th place medal with a puffy chest!

(The other day were at the mall and a boy in front of us had a running t-shirt on with “Sixth Place” printed on the back. Jack looked at me and I said, “You could wear that, couldn’t you.” He looked at me with a smile and said, “Yea. I’d wear that.”)

Jack also participated in the long jump this year. He had only practiced a couple times, but when we asked if he wanted to jump, he said, “Why not.” It was good practice for him! Can you see my mom and me in the background?

Side note: People always comment on how much Sam looks like my dad..I caught this picture: check out the facial expressions, their mouths, noses and eyes (they are the only two people in our family that have blue eyes!)

Can’t wait for next year track season!!

Duck Traffic

Hello!

A gal came into work the other day and said, “The duck traffic in this town is terrible!” And we all knew exactly what she meant! There are geese everywhere in town and will cross the street in front of you at any given minute! I have been stopped many of times by duck traffic and no matter what you do (honk, drive slowly through them-as I have seen others attempt) they will NOT hurry their walk!

I was taking Sam to an appointment and we ran into this duck family! It makes me laugh because they did not walk over the grass median.

They choose to walk all the way around the median to get to the other side. They were enjoying their family walk together.
FullSizeRender-1How fun is it that the parents are at the beginning and at the end of the crowd!

Have a fun weekend!

Happy Birthday, Jack!

Happy Birthday Little Man!

I cannot believe that jack is turning 11 years old today!  Thought I would share a few of my favorite pictures of Jack growing up! Didn’t think I would have a tear in my eye by the end. It truly goes so fast!

Oldie but a Goodie?

My First Page!

As I was straightening/organizing/rearranging my piles of wonderful goodies the other day, I came across this Oldie but Goodie: My first scrapbook page!

The first story I scrapped, was when Jason purchased a new bike in 1999.

The product I used to create this beauty included a wonderful orange bike die cut at Memory Bound along with the blue ric-rac strip, which I believe came in a pack. The “FUN” was a die cut from a company that had punch-out die cuts! I was in love!! And check out the use of that bike paper..genius!! Don’t forget the meticulous yellow circle frame that was cut out with my decorative scissors!!
DSC_0122

I must admit, I am pretty impressed that I actually included the journaling and some wonderful mats for photos and writing. At that time, I never completed a story without some sort of spelling error. No exception here! Can you find the spelling error?

DSC_0123

I remember Jason read the story and then made a comment about the spelling error. I told him there was NO WAY I was going to do that over! One: how would I get the paper off without ripping something and two: that page took me a good 15 minutes to create!

Oh…those were the days!

What I Have Been Reading…

Just Finished

What is fun about this new web site, is that I can categorize my posts. My book reviews will be categorized under the “Categories” drop down menu on the right under “Book Reviews.” In choosing this option, you can see all my book reviews in one area! YEA!!

With that introduced, I want to share with you the latest book that I just finished reading!

The Girls
by Emma Cline

https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1449672188l/26893819.jpg

From Amazon:
Northern California, during the violent end of the 1960s. At the start of summer, a lonely and thoughtful teenager, Evie Boyd, sees a group of girls in the park, and is immediately caught by their freedom, their careless dress, their dangerous aura of abandon. Soon, Evie is in thrall to Suzanne, a mesmerizing older girl, and is drawn into the circle of a soon-to-be infamous cult and the man who is its charismatic leader. Hidden in the hills, their sprawling ranch is eerie and run down, but to Evie, it is exotic, thrilling, charged—a place where she feels desperate to be accepted. As she spends more time away from her mother and the rhythms of her daily life, and as her obsession with Suzanne intensifies, Evie does not realize she is coming closer and closer to unthinkable violence.

Me:
When I first started the book, the author, I thought, over used the flowery comparisons and analogies and found myself thinking, “Just get to the point.” But soon (as I usual notice), the author will start very wordy and then as you read, it gets to the point. It seems as if the author cannot keep up all the wordiness, thanks goodness! sdfjk
Anyway…I really enjoyed the book and the viewpoint of Evie being introduced, drawn-in and wanting to be part of the club/cult. I kept telling Jason that the book was so wrong, Evie being only 14, but I could also understand how people can be drawn in due to be accepted for who they are…finally.
The murders are not the central part of this story by any means, nor is it the focus. So if you are looking for gory murder details, you won’t find them in this book. This book focuses on Evie and her feelings before, during and after her involvement with the people in the cult, especially the mother figure and friend she so desperately craves, Suzanne.

I would give this book a solid 3.5/5 stars.

Welcome to My New Site!

Welcome!

I hope you didn’t have any problems finding me!  This has been a long process and I am finally ready to launch my new site!

It has not been an easy process. For example, I had one site ready to launch and suddenly all the typing turned into code!! Then I was doing some test runs and lost the entire sight due to being bogged down by scripts! UGH!! I am obviously no techie!  After many bad words said out loud (thank you Jack for covering your ears!) pouting in the shower and talking to Abhilash on-line, my tech helper,  I am ready for an official test run this week. As you see it is very simple and this format does not allow me to add photos on the sidebar. I may find one in the future that will allow such a feature, but at this time all pictures will be in the post! 🙂

(Where I sat for the entire day on Saturday working on my new site!)

Jack sat across from me all day and worked on launching his own you-tube site…every time he asked if something was “okay” I said,”Sure.” I was a bit distracted and “edgy.”
IMG_8712-001

I better go back and find out what that was all about!
Hope that you come back often and enjoy the new site and don’t forget to bookmark this site as the other one will no longer be updated!

See you tomorrow!
