Football Friday Night!

HI!

Sam made Football Friday Night highlights on TV!
Of course I had to pause and take a picture! #89!

They may have been focusing on the play you can see right behind Sam, but Sam was in the right spot at the right time!

Sam’s comment…”That’s the kid I pancaked. Do you see that?”
Me, “Well, he goes down.”
Sam, “That’s a pancake, mom.”
I’m still learning football terms.

Gaming…

Hello!

Jack went off to a friend’s Friday night. Took this picture of him heading out the door…
Yep. He has a TV with him.
Yep. I was “that mom.”

Why a TV. A bunch of boys were getting together to game. Yep. I let him game for an entire Friday night.

Oh…by the way, he also has his Play Station in his backpack!

Mother of the Week award for me!!!

Oops!

Welcome Back!

So Sam has seen a lot of playing time on Varsity the last couple of weeks (he’s so happy!). It’s fun to watch him play, but I need to remember that I have people around me, too.

For example, a play was ran and the target was Sam. I was taking a picture and noticed he cut across and was WIDE OPEN! (he’s in the white)

I had 101 thoughts go through my head. From he’s going to get tackled (eek) to he is wide open if he catches that ball (yay!!) It was a very overwhelming 3 seconds for me. So by the time the ball was thrown to Sam, I had stood up, grabbed Jason’s coat in a twisted small fist and yelled, “OH SHIT!”

The ball was thrown way over his head and so all 3 second of worry was for nothing. So, I sat down and realized people were looking at me and thank goodness…they were laughing! I quickly gave a group apology, looked at Jason, who was just shaking his head and asked me, “Do you even know what you just did?”  I gave him the “eek” look and said, “I didn’t think anyone would hear me.”

Treadmill Tricks…

Hello!

Jason and I headed up to Minneapolis Saturday night to see Justin Timberlake in St. Paul. Don’t worry, we had all sorts of arrangements, back up plans and parents checking on the boys! 😁

I texted/checked in wtih the boys through the evening asking what they up to. At one point I received this picture.

Yep. They were shooting Teddy Graham off the treadmill into their mouths.

Thank goodness my biggest worry for the night was hoping they were smart enough not to get their faces wiped off by the treadmill.

Could be worse. 🤨

A Little Tackle for Jack!

Hello!

We are in full swing of football season for both of the boys and both have had great beginnings to their new football adventures!

This year is the first year of tackle football for Jack. In the past he has played flag football and loved it! Next year in eighth grade, if he chooses to play, will be tackle football. Jason and he decided that it would be good for him to try out tackle this year before school ball, to get the jitters out and try his hand at tackling other players.

Well, we have discovered that Jack is a-okay with tackling!
Jack hadn’t been in to do much tackling, but this is last weeks game…first play and first tackle! Boys not showing any jitters!

Even pushed his own teammate out of the way!

On Sunday, the team was at it again!
Check out this group ready to go in! Jack is number 81.

Yep…not afraid to rumble!

Pushed the big boys around a bit, too!

I was busy chit-chatting and did not notice or get a picture of Jack scoring the 2 point conversion!  Oops! Still very happy for him!

So far this season Jack’s team is 2-1. Not a bad way to begin the first half of the season!

Just Finished…

Welcome Back, Fellow Readers!

I have been reading, but noticed I am not up on sharing what I have read! I did just finish this book though,

GoodReads:
As the sun begins to set over Louisiana one October day in 1943, a young black man faces the final hours of his life: at midnight, eighteen-year-old Willie Jones will be executed by electric chair for raping a white girl – a crime some believe he did not commit.

In a tale taut with tension, events unfold hour by hour from the perspectives of nine people involved. They include Willie himself, who knows what really happened, and his father, desperately trying to reach the town jail to see his son one last time; the prosecuting lawyer, haunted by being forced to seek the death penalty against his convictions, and his wife, who believes Willie to be innocent; the priest who has become a friend to Willie; and a mother whose only son is fighting in the Pacific, bent on befriending her black neighbors in defiance of her husband.

In this exceptionally powerful novel, Elizabeth Winthrop explores matters of justice, racism and the death penalty in a fresh, subtle and profoundly affecting way. Her kaleidoscopic narrative allows us to inhabit the lives of her characters and see them for what they are – complex individuals, making fateful choices we might not condone, but can understand.

This book is so good in so many different ways. At times I got so mad at some of the characters and at other times I was crushed by what was happening.  I must say, it is a story about the night Willie is going to be executed. It does not focus on the crime itself or what really happened. To write such a moving story and for me to be ok not to find out all that the truth about what happened to the girl, tells how well this book is written.

I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Homecoming

Hello!

Last week was Homecoming week for our side of town and Sam had a great (and very busy) week!

Monday night started with Under the Lights. Basically, it’s field day for the big kids, but it takes place at night…hence “Under the lights.”  Sam was on a team with 12 of his friends and they had a blast! There’s a game that involves pudding and somehow Sam seems to always get covered.

Sam and Isabelle after UTL.

Friday was the Homecoming game and we won!! It was our first win of the season and boy did we need that!  It was so much fun!!! I sell t-shirts at the games, so I get there early to set up, which gives me time to watch the boys warm up and get a picture or two of Sam!

Jake and Sam talking strategy for the game…or where they are going to eat for Homecoming!

Sam asked Isabelle to homecoming by making her a poster, driving to her house, playing “Your Eyes” on his speaker while standing outside his truck..holding up the sign!  So sweet. Jack caught it all on camera!

Saturday finally came and that meant Homecoming dance! Sam and Isabelle went with Sam’s great friend, Jake and Isabelle’s friend Morgan. Such a great group of kiddos!

What a fun week for everyone! Now time for a nap!!
