Hello!
Well, if you live in my community (or in central Iowa), the big talk on Saturday was is you felt the earthquake! What? An earthquake in the middle of Iowa…yep! It happened around 7:05ish Saturday morning and it was the strangest thing!
Jason and I were just waking up and our blinds started to shake back and forth hitting the edge of the windows. Ok. That is super weird. And we suddenly became pretty freaked out because there was no explanation…we didn’t leave a window opened, the air conditioning didn’t just kick in. Soooo… Jason went straight to the paranormal. “I think a ghost just went through our windows.” I didn’t say anything, but in my mind I did a quick body check to make sure I didn’t feel anything trying to posses my body. (Ugh!) All was good and chalked it up to no explanation.
Shortly after, Jason got on his phone and discovered that our town had actually felt the aftershocks of an earthquake that occurred in Oklahoma! WOW!!
After all that excitement, I went out to mow the lawn. I actually do not mind mowing. It’s time to myself and to think without interruptions. While mowing, I went past a large hole in the ground and thought…”Wow, that’s a big hole. Wonder what’s in it? And why are all those bees flying around it?”
“BAD WORDS BAD WORDS!” because as soon as I realized it was an underground beehive, it was too late and I mowed right over that thing.
Not good.
This isn’t the actual hive in our yard, but this is what it looked like, but with lots of bees around it.
I must have stirred them up as I was mowing closer and closer to them.
Anyway, as soon as i ran over it, I took off as fast as i could on my mower because bees were all over me! I think I was lucky because I had on sweats and a sweatshirt so I was pretty covered up EXCEPT, for my feet which had on flip flops.
OH GOLLY! A bee stung me right between my toes! It tucked it’s little body between my toes and stung me. Oh. My. Word. I have not been stung before and that hurts! Hurts WAY more than I thought it would.
I finally had to kill the bee by hitting my toes repeatedly with my hand and then pulling the bee out from between my toes once I got the mower stopped. Oh the pain!!
I hobbled inside and pulled out the stinger…gross. I have not been stung before, so I don’t know if I was allergic…now I know that I am not.
Now for some pictures of my nasty toes!
You can see where the little guy stung me to the right of my pinky toe. You can see it because those “little” toes are starting to swell…which is a normal side effect of a bee sting.
About an hour later.
You can see the redness had spread and oh boy…it hurt! It actually hurt for the rest of the day and into the night! I took Advil and Benadryl to help with the pain and swelling. Finally, the next morning everything was back to “normal.” My foot no longer hurt and I wasn’t awoken by strange tremors. How was your weekend?
I was asleep and didn’t feel it, ok cool felt another one tonight my friends were on Facebook talking about it. My friend Gary lives in the county next to where it happened he is a police man so I’m sure they got lots of calls.
Poor little piggy it looked so bad, wear shoes mowing
